Dear Kate,
As you know, this past legislative session ended with some important investments in affordable homes – including $400 million for the Housing Trust Fund to build housing that will be
affordable to the lowest income people in Washington. That means that soon, approximately 3,000 more low-income families will have the stability of a safe, affordable place to call
home.
That only happened because housing advocates spoke up, over and over, demanding that lawmakers do something about the affordable housing crisis in our state.
That advocacy doesn’t just happen. It takes organizing to apply pressure on lawmakers at the right times. During the 105-day legislative session, we engaged almost 9,500 people across
Washington to join the movement for housing justice and speak up for solutions for our state’s housing crisis.
If you’re able, would you make sure we can keep building on this progress by making a gift today? Every gift made through midnight tonight, up to $7,000, will be matched dollar for dollar
by a generous group of board members – so your gift and your impact will be doubled!

We made meaningful progress this year, but it was incremental, not the transformational change we need. Lawmakers could have passed legislation putting reasonable limits on how much
landlords could raise the rent in any given year. And they could have increased the tax on multi-million dollar property sales and more than doubled the funding available for the Housing
Trust Fund. Instead, they gave in to pressure from the real estate lobby while the housing affordability crisis continues.
We took on these powerful lobby groups because it’s the only way to solve the crisis. Incremental change helps, but it’s not a solution – and we’re fighting for solutions because that’s
what our communities need and deserve.
We don’t have the corporate money that our opponents do which makes support from people like you so important. With grassroots support, we can out-organize the opposition and make sure
that everyone in Washington has a safe, affordable place to call home.
Thank you for being part of the Housing Alliance.
