From the incredible win of electing our mayor-to-be, Brandon Johnson to the elections of a new slate of progressive Alders on city council, Chicago is primed for a new era of progress. There’s no doubt that it was a battle to get here. In all races – but especially for mayor – we saw a tidal wave of relentless far-right and corporate money funneled into misinformation and fear-mongering. And yet, what we heard at the doors and at the ballot box was that people understand and want to deal with the root causes of poverty, insecurity, and harm. People want community-centered safety that invests in care. People want a labor leader as Mayor, someone who puts people over profits.
