Despite a 2018 federal settlement, officials with the state Department of Social and Health Services have struggled to keep up with the number of defendants who need assistance, leading to steep fines and growing frustration among law enforcement, families, and advocates. AFFH, which was established under the 1968 Fair Housing Act, directs the government to promote fair housing choice, eliminate disparities in housing, and foster inclusive communities. In response, both state and local governments are pumping billions into behavioral health care. The goal is to move more patients out of the state’s large psychiatric hospitals into smaller facilities. Emerald City Enhanced Services launched a behavioral health care facility as an alternative to the overburdened Western State Hospital. Developer, Destry Witt says the long-term care center can care for patients at half the cost of Western State. Every day, the site will highlight someone’s name, picture, and last known details. County officials said the hope is someone will share information connected to their disappearance. Washington counties, cities, and towns with a Shoreline Master Program may submit applications beginning July 5, 2023. The funding limit per project will be $250,000.
