Share air time and encourage all members to participate March 16th, 2022 3:30 to 4:30 pm Zoom Meeting THE EMPOWERED TEENS COALITION, CHIMACUM Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 MEETING WILL BE FROM 3:30 – 4:30 Zoom Meeting PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Community updates and news Facilitated by: Andre Fechenbach In attendance: Laura Tucker, Andrew Fechenbach, Holly Gumm, Lindsay Scalf, Chris Hoffman- Hill, Kristina Mayer, Joe Nole, Ciela Meyer, Shayann, Samuel Swenson, Heidi Eisenhour, Josh Ley, Mark Gudger, Emily Abell Time/Facilitator Activity 3:30 Andrew Check in/ Introductions Community updates. • Sheriff: Rolling out bodycam program, discussed Drug Disposal boxes in Port Hadlock QFC, could this possibly replace the event in the future • OlyCAP hiring two coordinators for A Way Home Program- innovative approach to homelessness • Mark Gudger updated about Character Strong, Mindfulness in the classroom, Lifeskills in CJSHS • Discussed having a representative from the Sheriff’s office become trained in Lifeskills, possibly the Navigator. Andrew and Sheriff Nole will follow up about this • Discussed masking transition in schools. Masking is now optional. School by school in Jefferson County it differs how many students/staff are opting into masking. Students have been handling it all very well, everyone remains respectful of others’ choices. • Samuel updated about Student Assistance Professional activities: groups, one on one, practicing refusal skills, teen center as a venue for groups, discipline referrals, self-referrals. • Discussed challenges youth are facing: screen-time issues, online culture impacting social norms around bullying, housing shortage/poverty issues making students feel less safe. One student stated: “there’s no game I can find online where I don’t get death threats, I get death threats playing uno online” 3:50 Andrew Safe Sober Graduation • Event coming up in June 2022 • Paid for merchandise and entertainment for the 2021 event • ETC will fund part of this upcoming event, and Drew will participate as a chaperone 4:10 Andrew 4H YPAR • Discussed promoting 4H programs as a coalition • There is a new 4H coordinator- Sarah Pederson • Shayann mentioned the history of 4H and the Teen Center collaborating, and that there is a current possibility of establishing a charter club with the ETC and 4H at the Teen Center 4:20 Andrew Guiding Good Choices Dates/Times Kick-off event via Zoom on Thursday March 31 6-7pm then 5 IN-PERSON sessions from 6-8pm on Tuesdays April 12, 19, 26 and May 3, 10 in-person in Quilcene or Port Townsend OR 5 VIRTUAL sessions from 6-8pm on Wednesdays April 13, 20, 27 and May 4, 11 via Zoom • Discussed recruitment for the program • Drew will send out the flyer to the group
