HomeMy WebLinkAbout20211228_PT ETC Meeting Minutes Port Townsend Empowered Teens Coalition Meeting Minutes December 28, 2021 3:30-4:30pm Zoom Meeting Purpose of meeting: 2021 End of Year Reflection presentation, Budget update for 2021-2022 Facilitator for this meeting: Lindsay Scalf Sector Representative Youth Parents Alicia Reynolds Businesses Media Law enforcement Religious or fraternal organizations Albert Scalf Schools Civic/Volunteer groups LoLo Sherwood Organizations serving youth Autumn Nolan Healthcare Professionals State, local, or tribal governmental agencies Apple Martine Greg Brotherton Other organizations involved in reducing substance use Holly Gumm Denise Banker Andrew Fechenbach Time Activity 3:30 Called meeting to order Approved Minutes, Al moved, Denise seconded, all in favor Approved Agenda, LoLo moved, Denise seconded, all in favor 3:35 Community Updates and introductions Everyone shared their name, what brought them to the Prevention field, and something they’re looking forward to in 2022 3:50 2021 End of Year Reflection- Canva presentation SAP Activities 18 Students served with 1 on 1 counseling 88 7th graders served with Prevention Education 15 Students in Coalition Club Nurse Family Partnership 12 parents of infants served with monthly home visits from a JCPH nurse A 2005 RAND Corporation analysis found a net benefit to society of $34,148 (in 2003 dollars) per higher-risk family served, with the bulk of the savings accruing to government, equating to a $5.70 return for every dollar invested in Nurse-Family Partnership In addition, the following outcomes have been observed among participants in at least one of the three randomized, controlled trials: • 48% reduction in child abuse and neglect • 59% reduction in arrests among children • 72% fewer convictions of mothers • 56% reduction in emergency room visits for accidents and poisonings • 67% reduction in behavioral and intellectual problems among children at age 6 Vaping Prevention Education 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Brinnon, and 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders in Quilcene. Over 100 students total explored the impact of vaping on the lungs, the effects of nicotine on the brain, and media literacy Guiding Good Choices 18 parents provided with content on how to build family connection and help youth live healthy, drug-free lives, 5-week program for parents of youth aged 9-14 2 new facilitators/parents trained for 2022 implementation, thank you Alicia and Holly! Drug Take Back Safe Disposal 93 pounds of medications collected for disposal at the Drug Take Back Event in Port Townsend Monthly advertising on JCPH social media about permanent Safe Disposal sites and MED project envelopes Positive Social Norms Reach: 5,000 with these two PSN messages through JCPH social media ALL parents in the school district received a PSN message in the school calendar Next step: setting up focus groups with youth in the new year CPWI Network 183 Community Survey Responses THANK YOU EVERYONE for taking the survey! Prevention Voices Contact Megan Moore for more information on the upcoming legislative session- megan.moore@kitsappublichealth.org CPWI Cohort 7 expansion in Quilcene With this grant expansion, it secures $50,000 per year for programs in South County + 1 full-time Coordinator + 1 full-time Student Assistance Professional in Quilcene! 4:15 Budget update for 2022 Jefferson County staff union has a new contract with Jefferson county that includes 9% raises for staff As a result, we have to redo the budget for our coalition, as the grant award remains the same, to accommodate this increase in salary for the CPWI coordinators and for NFP nurses 4:30 Closed meeting, Happy New Year!
