Coalition Action Plan Updates
• Holly Gumm, Alicia Reynolds, and Lindsay will be presenting an abbreviated
Guiding Good Choices session to the CONNECT Program group on February 16.
• Guiding Good Choices Spring 2022, planning is in progress.
• Discussed Policy workgroup, shifting from Comprehensive plan amendment to
partnering with Prevention Voices. Identified volunteers from coalition to
represent the group during the 2022 Legislative Session and contact our
legislators. Lindsay will send out resources about advocacy/lobbying/education
to all coalition members, and send email templates for specific bills on a rolling
basis to Al Scalf, Kate Dean, Laura Tucker, and Holly McIlvaine. Discussed
involvement in Community Health Improvement Plan now that it is hosted under
the Board of Health, Lindsay will connect with CHIP Executive Director to attend
Youth Age Band meetings.
Community Updates
• Holly McIlvaine updated the group on the first few weeks of the school year,
COVID-19 cases have been a challenge. The Coalition Club meets on
Wednesdays.
• Susan O’Brien updated the group on the School Based Health Center, there is a
new mental health provider- Andrea.
• Discussed PTHS Student Assistance Professional position, hiring still in progress
for the role.
4:00 Public Awareness/Positive Social Norms
• Viewed slides on the timeline of the Coalition’s interest in hiring a student as a clerk-
hire ‘Prevention Peer’ for the Public Awareness campaign/Positive Social Norms
campaign.
• Discussed how to move forward with this concept. Laura will share the information
again with Students for Sustainability. Cheryl suggested that we could reach out to
graduating seniors or Peninsula College students, and look into connecting the role
to school credit. Kate described some of the barriers that teens experience in being
a part of these type of roles, offered to connect a former CHIP Youth Age Band
volunteer with the Coalition to describe why these roles aren’t accessible in practice
to students. Lindsay will re-connect the original workgroup- LoLo, Karen, and Al, to
discuss how to move forward with recruiting for this role.
• Discussed hosting focus groups with the Blue Heron Coalition Club, Lindsay will
follow up with Holly McIlvaine about this scheduling.
