What is ‘budding’ for you right now? 3:40 Coalition Updates • Guiding Good Choices- workshop for parents, our last session is March 28 at 6pm at Recovery Café. This Spring series had 5 participants, and the Recovery Café has been a fantastic host! Thank you! • Blue Heron Youth and Family Engagement Events- coalition was approved to pay for supplies and fuel cards for Parent Nights and after-school clubs this Spring. Parent Nights are monthly, and averaging about 30 parents at each event! After-school clubs on Tuesdays are averaging about 15 youth per session. • Blake Decision Town Hall event scheduled for March 27th at 6pm at Quilcene Community Center. Is there potential for a Port Townsend-based event? • Blue Heron Vaping Prevention Education scheduled for April 12 and 13- includes digital curriculum from the ‘Truth Initiative’, SPORT content, and refusal skills content from Guiding Good Choices. • Listening group scheduled for March 29 at Blue Heron, with Prevention Club. A young- adult (ages 18-24) listening group will be scheduled later in the Spring. • Medication Take Back event scheduled for April 22- in PT at QFC, in Port Ludlow at the Beach Club, and in Quilcene at the Quilcene Fire and Rescue Station. 10am-2pm. Community Updates • Erin introduced Youth Advocating Radical Decisions (YARD), which is part of OlyCAP’s Youth Services program. • Documentary film screening in Quilcene, of ‘Love in the Time of Fentanyl’. At Quilcene Community Center on April 17 from 6-8pm. Naloxone training and distribution, learn about local harm reduction resources. Snacks provided! • April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month- Dove House will have an open mic/spoken word for open, creative healing space to share art and stories at the Recovery Café on April 26th 6-8pm. Keep up to date on hours and events at: www.owl360.org/programs#TheNest 4:05 Discussed Anti-Racist Literacy training This has been an activity of interest in the cultural mindfulness area of our action plan since our original strategic planning in 2019. Jefferson County Public Health has funding to offer us a training, geared towards Anti- Racism for substance-use prevention professionals. Usawa Consulting is scheduled to present at our May meeting- May 16, 3:30-4:30pm Discussed: What type of content do you feel needs to be addressed? With the knowledge that one-hour isn’t a lot of time to dig into the subject in depth, but will be a start. • History of prevention science and how prevention programs used to be in the business of creating and enforcing racially charged stereotypes about substances/substance use. • Resources for learning more about anti-racism. • Local history of events and systems that have contributed to systemic racism. • People can reach out to Lindsay if anything else comes to mind. • Denise will inquire at JCPH if coalition members are able to participate in the Anti- Racist Literacy workshop this summer. 4:20 Discussed how to begin action planning for 2022-2023.
