4:05 Discussed Anti-Racist Literacy training
This has been an activity of interest in the cultural mindfulness area of our action plan since
our original strategic planning in 2019.
Jefferson County Public Health has funding to offer us a training, geared towards Anti- Racism
for substance-use prevention professionals.
Usawa Consulting is scheduled to present at our May meeting- May 16, 3:30-4:30pm
Discussed: What type of content do you feel needs to be addressed? With the knowledge that
one-hour isn’t a lot of time to dig into the subject in depth, but will be a start.
• History of prevention science and how prevention programs used to be in the
business of creating and enforcing racially charged stereotypes about
substances/substance use.
• Resources for learning more about anti-racism.
• Local history of events and systems that have contributed to systemic racism.
• People can reach out to Lindsay if anything else comes to mind.
• Denise will inquire at JCPH if coalition members are able to participate in the Anti-
Racist Literacy workshop this summer.
4:20 Discussed how to begin action planning for 2022-2023. Lindsay will send a survey about past
programs so people can vote yay or nay, add notes, etc…
