Coalition updates • Guiding Good Choices- workshop for parents Our last session was March 28 at 6pm at Recovery Café. This Spring series had 5 participants, and the Recovery Café has been a fantastic host! Thank you Alicia for facilitating for another GGC series! • Blue Heron Youth and Family Engagement Events The coalition was approved to pay for supplies and fuel cards for Parent Nights and after- school clubs this Spring. April 20 Parent Night is 'shame free tips for parents'. • Blue Heron Vaping Prevention Education Took place April 12 and 13- included digital curriculum from the ‘Truth Initiative’, SPORT content, and refusal skills content from Guiding Good Choices. • Listening groups Took place on March 29 at Blue Heron, with Prevention Club. A young-adult (ages 18-24) listening group will be scheduled later in the Spring. • Medication Take Back Events took place April 22- in PT at QFC, in Port Ludlow at the Beach Club, and in Quilcene at the Quilcene Fire and Rescue Station. Port Townsend: collected 56.6lbs of medications handed out 8 naloxone kits handed out 6 medication lock boxes/bags 4:00 Reviewed report from insight activity with Blue Heron Coalition Club • Collage art project with 6th and 8th graders hosted on March 29. • Lindsay will send out the report with the images and the themes that emerged from the discussion. 4:05 Discussed action planning • Reviewed internal survey of coalition programs. Most responses gave a green light to the programs, with a few details to add to the language describing the programs. Survey will remain open for a few weeks so people can continue to submit their responses. https://forms.gle/Urr5tWXKH4NxTdU38 • Lindsay will make any edits to the action plan, and send out a draft before May 15th. The Action Plan is due to DBHR on June 15th. 4:10 Discussed stigma/shaming of people who use substances. • Event in Port Angeles Olympic Communities of Health and OlyCAP. • How to continue community education about person first language. Discussed how to promote parent education that encourages shame-free family discussions about substances use. • Discussed takeaways from April 20 Parent Night at Blue Heron, 16 parents were in attendance. • Guiding Good Choices framework sets up a model with the Social Development Strategy so parents are encouraged to frame all conversations with their ‘hope’ for their child, rather than fear/shaming, and promotes anger/conflict management so that destructive conflict is avoided. Discussed Legislative Session updates • Purchase Use and Possession (PUP) updates • Changes to signage laws • Blake Decision will be revisited in a special legislative session • HB 1406 concerning youth under the age of 18 accessing shelters • Official Washington State dinosaur will now be Suciasaurus rex 4:30 Closed meeting Next meeting: May 16, 2023 from 3:30-4:30pm Anti-Racist Literacy Workshop hosted by Usawa Consulting Lindsay Scalf Pronouns: she/her Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative Coordinator Jefferson County Public Health
