2:55 Prevention Science: Sustainability Discussion
Initiated discussion of coalition sustainability (i.e. What
happens if the coordinator is unable to lead a meeting? What
if we run out of funding to implement programs?)
Denise gave a good overview of the CPWI coalition model
(true grassroots beginnings vs. funded coalitions like ours).
While this coalition was established as a result of the grant
coming to Quilcene High School/Jefferson County Public
Health (resulting in the roles occupied by Alex Dill and Holly
Holly Gumm
Gumm), the goal is to mature the coalition into a self-
sustaining entity.
We acknowledged that the individuals routinely attending
coalition meetings are also wearing many other hats and do
not have capacity to take on additional leadership roles.
Coalition members were encouraged to invite other
community members to become involved with coalition work
(retirees, school volunteers, parents, etc)
3:05 Coalition sponsored events/program update
SPORT
Met today with Coach Beathard’s weight training class to
deliver SPORT (substance use prevention class built for young
athletes). Great group of young people- they asked awesome
questions and seemed really engaged in the conversation. In
addition to substance use (both legal and illegal), we covered
topics such as peer pressure, good nutrition, and sleep
hygiene.
Guiding Good Choices
Aiming for January implementation. Host sessions at Quilcene
and Brinnon Community Centers?
Holly will make contact OlyCAP regarding use of facilities.
