Construction of Phase #1 is finally beginning. When completed, the sewer system should radically change the housing situation on the peninsula. To put it in shorthand, current codes requiring septic systems basically allow one dwelling on each five-acre parcel. When the sewer system is fully operational, those same five acres could have over 200 residential units, including apartments. Businesses are also hemmed in by the current septic requirements. Some are already planning expansion. CATS IN OUR LAPS with host Phil Andrus Sunday 7-10pm Cats in Our Laps is a radio variety show which features live and recorded music, interviews, and readings. Typically, host Phil Andrus brings in a guest artist or two, sometimes into the KPTZ studio but more often on Zoom. Appearing on each show is Cats’ in Our Laps Poet Laureate Deborah Kate Hammond, a marvelous curator and reader of poetry, and Al Latham, who reads the tea leaves we call the “weather forecast”. May 21 Tonight’s guest artist will be Joey Lazzaro of Sequim’s Cats Meow Swing Band, whose music spans the first two-thirds of the twentieth century, ranging from Dixieland, big-band, and latin dance music, to more modern jazz and funk. When not playing his trumpet, Lazzaro was part of the NASA team which put Apollo 11 on the moon on July 20, 1969. Sharon Denbro and Lisa Lanza return to present this year’s Uganda AIDS Orphan Benefit. And, to open the show, Catherine Stone will read "First Idol" by Tom Bombadil, about a seventh grader and the object of his attention. May 28 Touring folks artists Judi Jaeger and Bob Reid will be guest artists on this night’s Cats in Our Laps. Both were raised in families which included performing folks singers. Heather Dudley Nollette will make her Cats in Our Laps debut by reading two essays on the topic of optimism. Also in the first hour, Kami Bruner of Zero Waste Washington will discuss that organization’s innovative program to keep usable items in use and out of the waste stream.
