We wanted to provide you with the weekly White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs briefing notes today. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you. Debt Ceiling: The Fiscal Responsibility Act has passed the house and the Senate will take it up today or tomorrow. The bill prevents a catastrophic default by raising the debt ceiling through 2025. The Administration was also pleased to see that the funding in the IIJA, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the IRA are all protected and that proposed cuts to Medicaid didn’t make it the deal. ARPA Recissions: The ARPA recissions does not affect any money that has already been obligated to states and local government. That money cannot be touched, regardless of what the state and local government has done with it already. Funding will only be rescinded from Federal accounts that haven’t been allocated yet. SNAP Changes: House Republicans insisted on work requirements to SNAP and TANF and the bill raises the SNAP age from 50-54 while exempting homeless (including housing insecure individuals) and veterans. Affordable Connectivity Program: This program provides consumers discounts on internet service, and they are saving consumers a total of half a million dollars each month. The program estimates that 48 million Americans could be eligible, so they are doing a week of action to promote the ACP and get more people connected to the internet. The week will be June 14th-June 22nd. U.S National Plan to End Gender Based Violence: This is the first national plan to comprehensively address how our nation approaches and looks to solve gender based violence. Over 80 countries around the world have a plan to address gender based violence. The U.S. currently has the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which was strengthened last year, but this plan will take a broader approach to address even more forms of gender based violence.
