Statement from President Joe Biden on Senate Passage of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement

"Tonight, Senators from both parties voted to protect the hard-earned economic progress we have made and prevent a first-ever default by the United States. Together, they demonstrated
once more that America is a nation that pays its bills and meets its obligations—and always will be. I want to thank Leader Schumer and Leader McConnell for quickly passing the bill.
No one gets everything they want in a negotiation, but make no mistake: this bipartisan agreement is a big win for our economy and the American people.
It protects the core pillars of my Investing in America agenda that is creating good jobs across the country, fueling a resurgence in manufacturing, rebuilding our infrastructure, and
advancing clean energy. It safeguards peoples’ health care and retirement security, protecting bedrock programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. It protects vital investments
in hardworking families that help make our country strong—from child care and education, to public safety and Meals on Wheels. It protects my student debt relief plan for hardworking
borrowers. And it honors America’s sacred obligation to our veterans by fully funding veterans’ medical care.
Our work is far from finished, but this agreement is a critical step forward, and a reminder of what’s possible when we act in the best interests of our country. I look forward to signing
this bill into law as soon as possible and addressing the American people directly tomorrow."

"Today is a good day for the American economy and American workers. We learned this morning that the economy created 339,000 jobs last month. We have now created over 13 million jobs
since I took office. That is more jobs in 28 months than any President has created in an entire 4-year term.
We also learned that the unemployment rate has been under 4 percent for 16 months in a row. The last time our nation had such a long stretch of low unemployment was in the 1960s. And
the share of working age Americans in the workforce is at its highest level in 16 years. Meanwhile the annual inflation rate has fallen for 10 months in a row, and it’s down more than
40 percent since last summer. During that time, take-home pay for workers has gone up, even after accounting for inflation.
In short, the Biden economic plan is working. And due to the historic action taken by Congress this week, my economic plan will continue to deliver good jobs for the American people
in communities throughout the country. I look forward to signing the bipartisan budget agreement into law. The agreement protects our historic and hard-earned economic recovery, and
all the progress that American workers have made in the last two years. And it protects key priorities and accomplishments from the last two years. Our work is far from finished, but
this agreement is a reminder of what’s possible when we act in the best interests of our country."

Homeownership remains a central part of the American dream and the primary contributor to generational wealth building and housing stability for millions of families. For far too long,
bias in home valuations has limited the ability of Black and brown families to enjoy the financial returns associated with homeownership, thereby contributing to the already sprawling
racial wealth gap.

announced the creation of the Interagency Task Force on Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity (PAVE): a first-of-its-kind interagency effort <https://whitehouse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=
f620288bb41dd81f9c715ef4d&id=2c0934f213&e=1b00b68fe6> to root out bias in the home appraisal process. As its first order of business, the Task Force developed and released the most
wide-ranging set of actions ever announced to advance equity and root out racial and ethnic bias in home valuations – the PAVE Action Plan <https://whitehouse.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f620
288bb41dd81f9c715ef4d&id=b63f7ea5d5&e=1b00b68fe6> . Since its release in March 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration has made critical progress towards fully implementing the Action
Plan, including by empowering consumers with new tools to address appraisal bias; leveraging data to identify trends and crack down on offenders of appraisal bias; and supporting a
well-trained and more representative appraiser profession.

Statement from President Joe Biden Marking National Gun Violence Awareness Day
"In the last year alone, we’ve lost more than 40,000 Americans to gun violence. Countless other survivors of gun violence will carry the trauma for the rest of their lives.
In the last two years, I’ve been able to sign the most significant gun safety legislation in decades and have taken dozens of executive actions. But it’s not nearly enough. I will keep
fighting to do everything I possibly can, but the reality is that it will take Congressional action to make the kinds of meaningful reforms we need to keep our communities safe.
A broad majority of Americans want to see commonsense reforms that would curb our gun violence epidemic – like establishing universal background checks, requiring safe storage of firearms,
and finally banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
But instead of listening to their constituents, Republicans in Congress continue to do the bidding of the gun lobby. Instead of shielding our kids from gun violence in their classrooms,
Republicans in Congress are focused on shielding gun manufacturers from liability.
At a time when guns are the number one killer of kids in America, it shouldn’t be this hard to convince Republicans in Congress to keep weapons of war off our streets and to keep guns
out of the hands of dangerous people. Even a majority of responsible gun owners support commonsense actions to save lives and keep our communities safe.
State lawmakers must step up as well. I’m encouraged by the growing number of states working to pass commonsense measures like red flag laws and assault weapons bans, but we have to
do more. And Americans must demand more.
It is within our power to realize a future where our malls, grocery stores, movie theaters, and places of worship are safe from the threat of gun violence. Where parents aren’t gripped
with anxiety dropping their kids off at school every single day. Where our children don’t learn to duck and cover before they learn to read and write. But it will require Congress to
act.
Today and every day, Jill and I hold those killed and injured by gun violence, and their loved ones, in our prayers. And we pray for the day that we can honor their memory with meaningful
action to address a crisis of gun violence that has gone on for far too long."

President Biden Meeting With Federal Emergency Preparedness and Response Leaders on Extreme Weather Preparedness

On Wednesday, May 31, President Biden met with leaders of his federal emergency preparedness and response team to receive the annual briefing on extreme weather preparedness. President
Biden announced 32,000 projects are funded or on the way as he discussed a variety of topics including water conservation, wildfires, and hurricane preparedness.
Thursday, June 1 marked the start of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through November 30th. Forecasts for storms and their impacts are available at www.hurricanes.gov

religious discrimination, and violence that began long before the Covid-19 pandemic. In May 2021, President Biden signed into law the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, a bipartisan legislation
that makes significant improvements to our Nation’s response to hate crimes. The bill addresses two challenges: the lack of resources and training for state and local law enforcement
to accurately identify and report hate crimes to the FBI, and the language and cultural barriers that many AA and NHPI communities and communities of color face in reporting hate crimes
to law enforcement.

access to school-based mental health services and more than $200 million for states, territories, and tribal organizations to support “988” services and help respond to crises. These
investments are part of billions of dollars the Administration has committed to expanding access to mental health services through President Biden’s American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan
