SUBJECT: Discussion: Gatheringplace Request for a Grant Application Letter of
Support
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Gatheringplace is a non-profit organization focused on enriching the lives of people with disabilities. They also
work to help break down stigmas and prejudices that others may have regarding people with disabilities.
Gatheringplace has rented space at the County Fairgrounds which has proven to be a great fit for their
participants and community members and their activities. They are hoping to expand their presence at the
Fairgrounds by construction a building with the help of Washington State Department of Social and Health
Services grant funds they are applying for. The grant application deadline is June 30, 2023.
ANALYSIS:
In order to qualify and be competitive for these grant funds they need a letter from the County indicating the
County's intent to lease property to Gatheringplace on which to locate the building for a period of at least 10
years.
In order to lease property, the County must publicly advertise the lease opportunity and conduct a public hearing.
Gatheringplace would need to compete for the lease opportunity with any other interested parties.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This request has no financial impact.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board discuss Gatheringplace's request for a letter of support containing an intent to lease space at the
Fairgrounds for at least 10 years and provide guidance to staff.
