SUMMARY
Coordinates Traffic Safety programs in Jefferson County. Assists the Sheriffs Office staff in
coordinating and raising public awareness of the consequences of alcohol and substance abuse
in the County, child passenger safety in motor vehicles, and traffic safety issues by performing
the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may
be assigned.
Facilitates Traffic Safety emphasis programs including law enforcement efforts, education, and
public information programs. Coordinates compliance checks with the Washington State Liquor
Control Board.
Conducts public meetings, presentations, acts as media liaison, and other activities as may be
required. Promotes Traffic Safety at local fairs and social events.
Provides timely reports, billings and other documents as required.
Researches, writes, and monitors law enforcement grants for the Department to include, funding
for traffic safety issues, equipment, staffing and prevention programs.
Facilitates a minimum of 4 or more county-wide Traffic Safety Emphasis programs.
Gathers statistical information related to alcohol collisions and informs all law enforcement
agencies as to the progress made or areas of improvement.
Contact each County High School to provide information and coordinate and/or present
programs on traffic safety issues.
Provide Traffic Safety education programs with safe driver information.
Support community efforts to educate students regarding impaired driving and laws governing
the use of motor vehicles.

Conduct quarterly safety restraint observation surveys within Jefferson County.
Attend conferences and meetings on traffic safety throughout the State and share traffic safety
information and programs of other counties in Washington State with law enforcement agencies
in Jefferson County.
Lead the Jefferson County Child Passenger Safety Team and teach child passenger safety
inspector classes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years experience in
criminal justice or law enforcement or related experience and/or training; or any equivalent
combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and
abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Washington State Driver's License
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of Washington State legal system and alcohol services.
