Hi Heidi,
North Olympic Land Trust serves a unique role within our community’s conservation goals. Unlike government groups, our work is led by community input and is made possible by private
landowners seeking to conserve their lands permanently. A recent example of this collaboration can be seen along the Lower Dungeness River, where the levees were set back.
Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Members, Dungeness farmers, and local residents are working together to help the Dungeness River heal from a century of abuse. The Land Trust fills an important
gap in services by providing private landowners along the Dungeness River a means to conserve their farmlands while enhancing and protecting river habitats. By working with private
landowners, the Land Trust is helping the community meet two important goals: protect local farmlands and restore more floodplains.
Our community is building on the success of the levee setback as we conserve more lands, such as Mid Valley Farm and Dungeness Hub, which became permanently
protected in 2023. And, there's more to come!
