Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Vintage WA event on May 20. We so enjoyed meeting with you in person at the Wing Luke Museum and the Chong Wa Benevolent Association, bringing the preservation community together around the Chinatown-International District and other important sites on our Most Endangered Places list. Thanks to your generous contributions, we exceeded our $10,000 fundraising goal for the evening. All proceeds will go towards the Washington Trust’s advocacy work, helping ensure that we have many more Most Endangered Places “saves” in the future. Check out the event program and photos on our website, and feel free to share your favorites on social—tag us @preservewa! The Casino began in the 1930s as a daytime card room and pool hall which was transformed by night into an after-hours club for LGBTQ+ patrons. The underground space, which was located below another historic gay bar called The Double Header, helped to anchor Pioneer Square as the center of the LGBTQ+ community, a role that only grew as the neighborhood took on a new identity. The Casino allowed same-sex dancing at some point, and its patrons referred to the space by a few different names over the years. Which of the following was NOT an alternate name for The Casino? A. Madame Peabody’s School of Dance for Young Ladies <https://preservewa.us2.list-manage.com/poll/vote?u=907c69b081f5ea7a5b595e058&c=3afbd0dbd0&e=2a9ec8db03&p=837079c7f3&v=1dc6c5e60c> B.
