WHEREAS, Jefferson County, Washington has more than 650 licensed Amateur Radio
Operators who have demonstrated their value in public assistance by providing emergency radio
communications; and
WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio Operators donate these services free of charge to the County,
in the interest of the citizens of the County as well as the world; and
WHEREAS, these Amateur Radio Operators are on alert for any emergency, local or world-
wide, and practice their communication skills during the American Radio Relay League, Inc.'s Field Day
exercise; and
WHEREAS, this year's Amateur Radio Field Day will take place on June 24 & 25, 2023 and for
this year, the participating Amateur Radio Operators will be primarily operating from their home or mobile
stations for the exercise and contest;
NOW, THEREFORE, Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaim the week of
June 19-25, 2023, as
Amateur Radio Week
In recognition of this important emergency preparedness exercise, and call upon all citizens to
pay appropriate tribute to the Amateur Radio Operators of our County.

SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION re: Proclaiming the Week of June 19 - 25,2023, as Amateur
Radio Week and Amateur Radio Field Days as June 24 -25, 2023
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Jefferson County, Washington has more than 650 licensed Amateur Radio Operators who have demonstrated
their value in public assistance by providing emergency radio communications; and these Amateur Radio
Operators donate these services free of charge to the County, in the interest of the citizens of the County as
well as the world. Amateur Radio Operators are on alert for any emergency, local or world-wide, and
practice their communication skills during the American Radio Relay League, Inc.'s Field Day exercise.
Locally, Mr. John Ebner, Logistics & Facilities Coordinator, Department of Emergency Management and
Mr. Dick Illman, President, Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club are involved in the Amateur Radio Field
Day that will take place on June 24 & 25, 2023 and requesting the County Commissioners proclaim the week
of June 19-25, 2023, as Amateur Radio Week.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to Jefferson County.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve PROCLAMATION re:'Proclaiming the Week of June 19-25, 2023, as Amateur Radio Week and
Amateur Radio Field Days as June 24—25, 2023
