This restriction applies to all land in the county not under DNR or Federal jurisdiction. The restriction follows a policy adopted by the Mason County Commissioners to be consistent with the Washington Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) and restrict certain burning activities when the National Fire Danger Rating System is at a moderate level. Recreational burning – campfires or cooking fires using charcoal or firewood in a metal, concrete or rock circle no larger than 3 feet in diameter – is permitted. Fire officials warn, however, that as warmer weather continues, this recreational fires may be restricted in the near future. These pollutants can have negative impacts on our health and the environment. As we gear up for wildfire season in the Pacific Northwest, let’s prepare ourselves by understanding the dangers of smoke and the sources that contribute to it. Together, we can help our communities be #SmokeReady.
