HomeMy WebLinkAboutPeer Support Specialist – Clerk Hire PositionJefferson County Job Description Job Title: Peer Support Specialist — Clerk Hire Position Department: Superior and District Court Reports to: Therapeutic Courts Coordinator FLSA Exempt: No Union: N/A BBP: No Hourly wage: $18.91 Hours Worked: Works up to 69 hours per month SUMMARY: The Peer Support Specialist supports participants in Jefferson County's Therapeutic Courts — Behavioral Health Court and Drug Court. The Peer Support Specialist's role is to work with individuals who are struggling with issues related to mental health and addiction while they are participating in the Therapeutic Court Program. The Peer Support Specialist will be a resource for participants to help them plan, evaluate and maintain their recovery journey by engaging in a positive supportive relationship. This work will include assisting participants in attending court required appointments, providing resources when applicable and tracking their progress through the program. This position receives supervision and guidance from the Therapeutic Courts Coordinator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned: • Works with participants in various stages of recovery and/or struggling with mental health challenges to provide support and referral services • Maintains regular contact with assigned participants. • Develops relationships with community partners. • Optimizes participant connection with a broad range of community -based services and natural supports. • Maintains clear communication with the Therapeutic Court Team to ensure participant success. • Participates in Therapeutic Court staffing and attend court hearings. • Retrieves, enters and updates participant information in tracking system. • Provides support to the Therapeutic Courts Coordinator for all program development and trainings of team members. • In coordination with the Therapeutic Courts Coordinator and team members, creates and revises promotional and program materials. • Responds to inquiries about the program from service providers, the community and potential participants. • Works directly with the Therapeutic Court Coordinator to establish guidelines, best practices, participant tracking and expectations in the development and application of this position. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or GED. Experience using database systems and maintaining and updating information desired. Must be familiar with Therapeutic Court practices. Must complete a criminal history background check. Therapeutic Court Program graduate preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Valid Washington State Driver's License REQUIREMENTS: • Must sign a confidentiality agreement to respect the privacy of clients and employees and hold in confidence all information obtained in the course of professional service and employment. • Must have great organizational, documenting, and communication skills. • Ability to demonstrate and inspire hope, trust and a positive outlook. • Must continue attention to a positive and healthy lifestyle. • Ability to maintain confidentiality of call client information. • Proficient level of ability with Microsoft Office products. • Ability to maintain healthy boundaries with participants. • Ability to manage time effectively. • Ability to work both independently and under supervision. • Knowledge of local resources and community -based organizations. • Knowledge of trauma -informed care. • Ability to work at the Jefferson County Courthouse and in the community with participants. • Ability to use tact and judgement in responding to volunteers, coworkers, court representatives, the public, law enforcement and officials from other agencies. • Ability to accept supervision and coaching.
