Share air time and encourage all members to participate Date: 6/21/2023 Time: 3:30-4:30PM ZOOM PURPOSE OF THE MEETING: Community updates, hiring updates, youth involvement, Guiding Good Choices Facilitated by: Holly Gumm (Quilcene-Brinnon ETC) and Lindsay Scalf (Port Townsend ETC) In attendance: Sector Representative Youth Parents Businesses Media Law enforcement Joe Nole Josh Ley Religious or fraternal organizations Schools Civic/Volunteer groups Organizations serving youth Chris Hoffman-Hill Shayann Hoffer Healthcare Professionals Denise Banker State, local, or tribal governmental agencies Heidi Eisenhour Karen Obermeyer Other organizations involved in reducing substance use Lindsay Scalf Time Facilitator Activity 3:30PM Holly Check in/ Introductions Ice breaker included the sharing of organizational and personal ‘wins’ such as: -community relationship building -moving on past COVID -the hiring of a new Jeff Co WSU director -filling open roles within various local organizations -leadership changes for Teen Center -opportunities to gain additional funding for capacity building 3:50pm Holly Community Updates: Karen Obermeyer with JCPH/WIC: Farmer’s Market Vouchers are available for eligible young families and seniors. Secondhand smoke and vaping education Chimacum Empowered Teens Coalition Mission : Youth, families, and community working together to prevent underage substance use and abuse. www.jeffersoncountypublichealth.org/530/Empowered-Teens-Coalition resources have been disseminated to various stakeholders in Jefferson County. Printable flyers are available on the Jefferson County Public Health website. Kaleidoscope Play and Learn occurring in Port Hadlock. Check out their website for dates and location. Holly Gumm: Over 20 Jefferson County LGBTQIA+ youth attended Pink Prom in Bremerton last month. Pink Prom is an annual dance event held with the intent to hold safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies. Feedback from students and adult chaperones was very positive. Firearm Safety event: September 23rd 10-1PM at Quilcene Community Center. Safe Firearm Storage Giveaway: Trigger locks and lockboxes. Event is free to the public. Contact Barb Jones bjones@co.jefferson.wa.us for more information. Lindsay Scalf: Family Reunification day this weekend (June 24th) from 11-2 at HJ Carrol Park. This day is a celebration of families who have been reunited with their families following engagement with foster care. Denise Banker: A new coalition coordinator has been hired for the Chimacum Empowered Teens Coalition. Kara Billinger-Hesson will be joining in early July. The budget and action plan drafts for the upcoming year have been submitted to the grant funder (Washington State Health Care Authority).
