Other times they involve 9-minute business meetings followed by walks on the beach under clear blue skies, along with social time with partners and friends. The latter was the case for the Coalition board this month as we gathered in the San Juan Islands. We opened this 2-day gathering to friends and partners in the Islands, and asked our colleagues at the San Juan County Land Bank to show us around. They came through in grand fashion, taking us to six WWRP-funded projects on two Islands (Lopez and San Juan) Read more <https://wildliferecreation.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0f4ebc0827fada7e62b54ea21&id=66d89994be&e=2cbb6f867b> <https://mcusercontent.com/0f4ebc0827fada7e62b54ea21/images/42ced9e2-62d0-63be-d899-eb5841f455c7.jpg> King County Community Van Love getting outside but don’t have a car? Join us Wednesday, October 11th for an evening at Stoup Brewing Company (Capitol Hill) of food, drinks, community, and celebration of outdoors champions. We will be celebrating the $120 million in funding for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) in the Capital Construction Budget for the 2023-2025 biennium and the tremendous impact of our work since 1989. We'll also be highlighting things happening today and tomorrow across our state thanks to the ever-expanding efforts of the greater outdoors community. The Department of Fish and Wildlife used this grant to buy 216 acres of habitat for fish and other wildlife along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, about halfway between Port Angeles and Seiku. The land includes shoreline, river, coastal wetlands, and forested uplands. Conservation will allow the department to protect the natural processes in one of the last remaining functional ecological systems in western Washington. The East Twin River and West Twin River reach has some of the most complex shorelines of the Salish Sea and the near-shore one of the most diverse. After surviving a rare cougar attack on a ride outside of Seattle in early 2018, Izzy was hospitalized with severe facial trauma while hateful anti-trans rhetoric filled comment sections of news articles that he had little to no control over. In the years since, he has struggled to overcome his anxiety of being alone in the woods and the self-doubt brought on by strangers after the attack. Despite these challenges, Izzy found solace and support in the Seattle cycling community, which reignited his passion for the sport. 'The Right to Joy' film follows Izzy’s journey as he navigates the aftermath of the attack, overcomes his fears, and becomes an advocate for diversity and trans inclusion within cycling communities across the country.
