HomeMy WebLinkAboutWorkshop re After Action Fireworks Ban JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS WORKSHOP AGENDA REQUEST TO: Board of County Commissioners FROM: Mark McCauley, County Administrator DATE: July 10, 2023 SUBJECT: Workshop: After Action Review of the June 30,2023 County Fireworks Ban and Related Enforcement Efforts STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Due to the recent hot, dry weather conditions the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs Association and the Jefferson County Fire Marshal issued a High Fire Hazard Declaration on Friday, June 30, 2023, which automatically imposed a ban on fireworks, per Chapter 8.75 Jefferson County Code. This was the first High Fire Hazard Declaration and associated fireworks ban since the adoption on Ordinance 03-0314-22 on March 14, 2022. ANALYSIS: All would benefit from a review of the events leading up to the declaration, the impact thereof and the enforcement efforts of local law enforcement. FISCAL IMPACT: This request has no fiscal impact. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners discuss the fireworks ban and solicit input from staff, the fire chiefs and the public.
