HomeMy WebLinkAboutRecompete Grant JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST TO: Jefferson County Board of Commissioners FROM: Kate Dean, Commissioner DATE: July 12, 2023 SUBJECT: Recompete grant application meeting with Clallam BOCC STATEMENT OF ISSUE: As part of the Chips and Science Act,Congress approved a new grant program, called Recompete,to fund rural and economically distressed communities to plan for and implement programs that will increase participation in the workforce by prime-age employees, aged 25-54. More information on the Recompete program can be found here: https://www.eda.p,ov/fundinp-/prop,rams/recompete-pilot-program And an FAQ fact sheet can be found here: https://www.eda.gov/funding/programs/recompete-pilot-program/f N ANALYSIS: In order for applications to be competitive, they need to include a broad set of stakeholders from a region-not just one city or county. As such,Jefferson and Clallam County Commissioners are hoping to reach agreement on a strategy for advancing one regional application. FISCAL EWACT: There is no additional fiscal impact, unless the BOCC decides to fund an entity or consultant to prepare a grant application for the region. RECOMMENDATION: Participate in the briefing and bring questions and comments regarding opportunities for collaboration in workforce development and support services to increase prime-age employment on the North Olympic Peninsula. The program targets areas where prime-age (25-54 years) employment significantly trails the national average.
