SUBJECT: Recompete grant application meeting with Clallam BOCC
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: As part of the Chips and Science Act,Congress approved a new grant
program, called Recompete,to fund rural and economically distressed communities to plan for and
implement programs that will increase participation in the workforce by prime-age employees, aged
25-54. More information on the Recompete program can be found here:

ANALYSIS: In order for applications to be competitive,they need to include a broad set of
stakeholders from a region-not just one city or county. As such,Jefferson and Clallam County
Commissioners are hoping to reach agreement on a strategy for advancing one regional application.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no additional fiscal impact, unless the BOCC decides to fund an entity or
consultant to prepare a grant application for the region.
RECOMMENDATION:
Participate in the briefing and bring questions and comments regarding opportunities for collaboration
in workforce development and support services to increase prime-age employment on the North
Olympic Peninsula.

Recompete Pilot Program Vision
The Recompete Pilot Program will invest $200 million in
distressed communities across the country. The program
targets areas where prime-age (25-54 years) employment
significantly trails the national average.

Why Local "Communities" and "Labor Markets"?
Different communities need different investments to address joblessness. The local community and labor markets
eligibility is meant to ensure the Recompete program addresses different local workforce needs.
1. Local Labor Market 2. Local Community
