The growing availability of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, has exacerbated the opioid crisis in the United States, leading to a surge in overdose deaths and addiction rates. Local
communities bear the brunt of the epidemic’s consequences with increased healthcare costs, overburdened law enforcement, and devastated families. But tamping down the illegal use of
this drug requires collaborative efforts between nations as fentanyl and precursor chemicals are often illicitly trafficked from countries including China and Mexico before being distributed
in Europe and North America.
