Join NNRG Director of Forestry Kirk Hanson for a tour of ecologically-based forest restoration practices aimed at improving climate resilience, wildlife habitat, and timber productivity.
Kirk has been managing his family’s forestlands for nearly 30 years. When his family acquired their Bucoda Forest in 2018, Kirk began a long-term process of restoring the property while
testing forestry techniques along the way. The young mixed hardwood/conifer forest was rife with common issues many small woodland owners face: invasive species, both overstocked and
understocked stands, diminished diversity and wildlife habitat, and limited potential for timber production.
