Join our statewide conversation on clean transportation! Thursday, August 17th at 7 pm Register Now <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=54869a57b8b33528f81de4397e1e48391ffafbd4c1fbe046724cdf0a29163f40e509800252a820c0c52cb790d5ab93e0abc793e2f5e82d7f> As millions of people elevate demands for climate action and racial justice, the fossil fuel industry and other polluters increasingly bankroll politicians to sabotage our democracy, destroy wild lands, and gut environmental protections. We must transform our exploitative economy built on fossil fuels to a regenerative society built on sustainability, ecosystem protection, democracy, and interdependence. Sierra Club is committed to a future built on environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice; A world where humans treat each other, the Earth, and all species with humility, care, and respect. One crucial component to achieving this future is securing clean, safe and abundant housing and transportation options for all. In Washington, the majority of our climate emissions come from our transportation sector. This month Wes Stewart, Washington’s Clean Transportation Organizer, will present the chapter’s Clean Transportation For All (CTFA) campaign. He'll present our plan, the working group structure and its relation to other volunteer bodies, discuss how to achieve Washington’s transportation priorities, and engage in local power mapping / base-building strategizing. This conversation will set the foundation for future local group collaboration and create the conditions that grow interest and investment in building a green future relevant to, and benefiting a diversity of distinct communities. <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=54869a57b8b33528f81de4397e1e48391ffafbd4c1fbe046724cdf0a29163f40e509800252a820c0c52cb790d5ab93e0abc793e2f5e82d7f> Campaign Priorities In partnership with housing, transportation, environmental justice organizations, and impacted communities, we are working to pass legislation to amend building codes, ensure abundant housing in Washington's fastest growing cities, expand zero-emission transportations options, and expand access to EV vehicles. Our priorities are: * Improve well-being for pedestrians and cyclists through traffic calming and safe street infrastructure. * Decrease car-dependency through infill development, road diets and halted highway expansions, and providing public transportation alternatives (commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit). * Invest in access to EV technology. Following Wes's discussion and questions, there will be a few brief updates on key issues and then we will move into breakout rooms where you can talk with local group leaders. This is the perfect way to meet friends and local Sierra Club Leaders. We also want to hear from you about your interests and concerns. We hope to see you!
