PORT LUDLOW BRUSH FIRE QUICKLY CONTAINED
PORT LUDLOW — a small brush fire broke out Wednesday night at 11:44PM on Paradise Bay Road, directly across from the Port Ludlow Village Store.
The initial size of the fire was reported to be approximately 5’x 5’. East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) responded with a full alarm assignment for the brush fire, dispatching four engines
staffed with 12 personnel and the Battalion Chief. The first engine to arrive observed that the fire had grown to approximately 50’x50’.
The crews quickly contained the fire. Full extinguishment was declared at 12:35AM. There were no injuries or property damage reported.
EJFR wants to thank the responding partners from NAVMAG Indian Island and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. This morning DNR will be assisting with improving containment lines around
the fires edge and patrolling for hot spots. Please use caution when driving through the area, watching for firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by EJFR’s fire investigator.
EJFR wants to remind the community that wildfires can occur anywhere, at anytime. EJFR’s Fire Chief, Bret Black commented, “Recently we have had grass and vegetation fires throughout
District 1, including Beaver Valley, in the City of Port Townsend and now Port Ludlow, we need people to be prepared”.
For the next few months Jefferson County will experience higher than average potential for wildfires due to weather and drought. Residents are reminded to BE READY, GET SET, GO EARLY.
