HomeMy WebLinkAbout081723 Quilcene Groundbreaking Date_timeHi Greg, Here's the press release I just sent out. Quilcene Food Bank Breaks Ground On a NEW FACILITY! Quilcene, WA - The Quilcene Food Bank is breaking ground on a desperately needed new facility on September 7, 2023 @ 10:00am. Our new location will be 161 Herbert St, Quilcene. Currently, we feed over 350 clients a week, and the numbers keep growing. “The existing facility is too small, with no heat or air conditioner in the food storage area and we have limited parking. The pandemic also brought to light the fact that we need additional storage to store extra food in case of an emergency.” Said Leslie Tippins, Quilcene Food Bank Manger. The Quilcene Food Bank currently operates out of the Community Center in Quilcene, a building which is also used by various community groups. Food is stored in a building which sits behind the Community Center, meaning when trucks deliver food, the manager and volunteers must transport the food from the trucks to the storage building. On the morning that the Food Bank is open to distribute the food, the manager and volunteers have to move the food again to a room in the front of the building and place it on shelves and tables for distribution. At the end of the day, whatever is left must be moved back to the storage building until the following week. Quilcene Food Bank also supports the Coyle community by sending a weekly pop-up food pantry to the Laurel B. Johnson Coyle Community Center. Join us at the groundbreaking and help us celebrate our future food bank. Donations will help us build a new building allowing us to continue serving our community and feeding our hunger. Donations can be made online at www.jeffersoncountyfoodbanks.org <http://www.jeffersoncountyfoodbanks.org> or mail a check to, PO Box 124, Port Hadlock, WA 98339, please write on the memo section check “Quilcene Building.” Founded in 1987, the Jefferson County Food Bank Association (JCFBA) has been a vital force in serving the community, particularly East Jefferson County. With a dedicated team of volunteers, the JCFBA tirelessly works to address the pressing issue of food insecurity in the region. By offering a diverse range of food and hygiene supplies, they extend a helping hand to between 2,700 and 3,900 households, positively impacting the lives of nearly 8,000 individuals every month. -- Sincerely, Deisy Bach 360-774-4680 (Office) 925.785.3137 (Cell) Jefferson County Food Bank Association PO Box 124 Port Hadlock, WA 98339
