Learn about the magic of collections and how you can support that this summer What Is a Collection? What is a collection? Why do you often see people who work in museums wearing gloves? How do giant objects on display in museums end up there? We hear some variation on these questions a lot! So, a few years ago, we enlisted Zula, a Chimacum High School student (now a college student! 🤯), to take us through the basics of museum collections. Maybe you collect feathers like Zula, or rocks and minerals like Oliver. What about vinyl records, mugs, or bumper stickers? No matter your age and whatever the object, something many of us share is a love for collecting items. Sometimes, we collect items that we like learning about or use regularly. Others might be associated with a loved one or a cherished memory. What makes museum collections special is that they are a community resource. As Zula says, "Museums are places that save and take care of things to share with all of us."
