Read on below to find out the ways, big and small, you can contribute over the coming months. ________________________________ <https://click.emails.sierraclub.org/?qs=6e703a6f359a963c19a4b64ee8636f5b2371fd2d8c08b79c4d38005e3cfeaccb34cacf96efae2731dada2047696de091b60df5b84f05e973a4aa42fff82d38db> Starting September 23rd, indigenous leaders will embark on the "All Our Relations" Snake River Journey (previously known as the “Totem Pole Journey”) with events spanning the Pacific Northwest that highlight the need to breach the four lower Snake River dams in order to restore the river, its historic salmon runs, and the Southern Resident orcas that depend on them. This year’s journey culminates in a discussion moderated by KNKX on October 1st at Town Hall Seattle featuring Nez Perce Chairman, Shannon Wheeler, and Sierra Club's new Executive Director, Ben Jealous. We’re at a crucial point in the Snake River campaign as the Biden administration is set to release a decision on the fate of the dams soon. Join us as we stand together with tribes. Public Lands Team member Claudia Fermanczyk and other Sierra Club volunteers recently joined our partners at the Center for Responsible Forestry to survey parcels in Tiger Mountain scheduled to be auctioned and clearcut and "determined that 75 acres of [the South Paw] unit classified as a mature forest. . . [which] have greater biodiversity, ability to retain water, are less susceptible to the spread of wildfires, and are superior in carbon storage." Take a moment to read the rest of Claudia's hands-on approach to Preserving our Legacy and learn how you can get involved in State Lands September! Sept has been a key staff member for Sierra Club Washington State – serving as lead staff organizer for two successful campaigns to stop major new fossil fuel facilities. We’re grateful for Sept’s leadership to ensure the Washington State Chapter of the Sierra Club continues fulfilling its mission to protect, enjoy, and explore the environment. Read the full statement from Chapter Director Sept Gernez and Executive Committee Co-Chairs Mike O’Brien and Michelle Nitardy on our website! Save the Date: Chapter Wildlife Committee Wednesday, Sept. 20th. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Ben Maletzke, Wolf Specialist with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), is joining our next Chapter Wildlife Committee meeting to present an update on the state's Gray Wolf Report. All Sierra Club members are invited to attend. As you may have seen in a recent action alert, WDFW is proposing downlisting grey wolf protection status from endangered to sensitive. The presentation will give you an opportunity to learn more about gray wolves and how they are recovering and dispersing in Washington.
