HomeMy WebLinkAbout082823 Animal shelter SmithPlease fund the local animal shelter. We need a place to shelter animals that are not wanted but also to find homes for them. This is a basic function that should be made available
in every town. Not allowing volunteers is another real kick in the behind when you are trying to help save money. This is one I do not understand. I am sure there is an explanation,
but since other types of shelters do allow volunteers, I would have to assume there is a way to make this work. The least the town of Port Townsend could do is to not charge them
rent for the building and the fact that you don’t pay to have repairs done on the building is unbelievable. In most cases I would think the organizations that handle rent control,
etc., would find this unacceptable. It is even more unbelievable that you actually require them to use only county employees, which could be costing them even more money.
I urge you to give this organization a break and do something to help this struggling charitable operation to succeed. Please show humanity to all the loving animals who live in our
area.
