HomeMy WebLinkAbout082923 Our County Animal ShelterI read this paragraph below on Next door today and was also shocked to hear that the Jefferson County Humane Society Shelter get zero funding from the county and city? Please verify. “I attended a meeting today between our local animal shelter and the county commissioners. I was beyond shocked to find out that our much needed animal shelter not only receives no funding from either the city or the county, but actually pays rent for leasing the property from the county. Unlike a normal landlord though, the county requires their tenant to pay for all repair work on the dilapidated and way too small building, and requires them to use only county employees to make the repairs. This makes it prohibitively expensive and does not allow volunteers to perform repairs. I would encourage everyone to email the board of commissioners at JeffBoCC@co.jefferson.wa.us <mailto:JeffBoCC@co.jefferson.wa.us> and politely state that the county/city should be funding this crucial facility (as other counties and cities do) and at the very least should not be charging any rent! The Board seems sympathetic but they need to move on this fast. I would also encourage people to make donations to the shelter, since they rely exclusively on this funding together with their amazing team of volunteers.
