A few weeks ago, thousands of participants representing counties of all sizes came together in Austin, TX to shape the National Association of County Officials' federal policy priorities, share proven practices and strengthen knowledge networks. Amidst a busy schedule traveling to our counties, it was valuable for me to spend time with attendees from around the nation engaging on topics affecting each of our states. While challenges and needs are diverse, common themes emerged in sessions and conversations around good governance, infrastructure needs, resiliency, safety, and leadership. I also had the opportunity to attend an all-day session of the Transportation Steering Committee to participate in sessions on the Federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, freight, rail, transit, and emerging transportation technologies and trends. The conference did not disappoint. It was an excellent opportunity to network with peers and learn more about today’s most pressing issues for county transportation departments. It has given me plenty of food for thought and left me invigorated to continue our agency's good work as we head into fall.
