Interested in learning more about assisted migration in the Pacific Northwest?
The 2023 Northwest Innovative Forestry Summit events continue with a tour of assisted migration and climate adapted restoration projects near Carnation, Washington.
Assisted migration, aka the human-assisted movement of species in response to climate change, is a climate-adaptation strategy increasingly being employed in the Pacific Northwest as
land managers decide what to plant. This tour will meander through the sites of two assisted migration field projects: Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center’s Climate Resilience Restoration
Project <https://nnrg.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f7fac24f39af609be946c1056&id=b5e883f5f6&e=b279c8a19f> and the Stossel Creek Adaptive Restoration Project <https://nnrg.us10.list-manage.com/
track/click?u=f7fac24f39af609be946c1056&id=41762116cd&e=b279c8a19f> co-led by the Mountains to Sound Greenway, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, and Northwest Natural Resource
Group.
We will meet at the Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center to tour their assisted migration project along the banks of the Snoqualmie River, then carpool to the Stossel Creek site. During
the tour, we will discuss the rhyme and reason behind both planting projects and have a discussion on the ethics of assisted migration and its role in innovative forestry.
