INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS

Week in Review: Director Tom Perez Travels to the West Coast and Delivers Remarks at the US Conference of Mayors
Mayor Karen Bass hosted Tom Perez, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, in Los Angeles to deepen the ongoing
partnership between the City and the federal government.
Mayor Bass and Director Perez toured Skid Row and joined regional elected leaders including Los Angeles City Council members, local mayors and members of the County Board of Supervisors
as part of their focused discussion on solutions to urgently confront the homelessness crisis.
“We have to work in partnership, and the scale of the challenges confronting our unhoused people here is enormous, we know that, and what we talked about most is that the homelessness
crisis is going to take a whole of government approach and we are going to work together” said.
Director Tom Perez also visited some of the project sites in the San Diego region benefiting from the historic federal funding provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the American
Rescue Plan, and other recent initiatives.
“I commend the leadership of SANDAG, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, and Caltrans for the great work they are doing on the construction of the new Terminal 1 and the
LOSSAN rail corridor. They are modeling how to provide good union jobs and transformational economic opportunity…I am also proud of the collaboration between the city and county under
the leadership County Chairwoman Nora Vargas and Mayor Todd Gloria to maximize the investments made possible by President Biden’s Investing in America agenda,” said Director Perez.
