Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. County Commissioners, Dr Allison Berry, and Willie Bence, Please see the questions listed below from KPTZ listeners for the Monday, October 2, 2023 health update. Thank you, Lynn Sorensen KPTZ Virus Watch Team Questions for Dr Allison Berry: 1. What will be the cash price for the Covid booster for Canadian visitors who wish to get their shots at the pharmacies in Port Angeles? 2. How do we get the new free covid tests from government? 3. Are the current Covid self tests accurate in detecting the new variants this Fall? 4. I have heard that the expiration dates on the home Covid antigen tests I received late last spring have been extended by the FDA. True? 5. How should we dispose of outdated Home Antigen Rapid tests? I’ve looked for extended expiration dates, but the Lot Numbers of some tests are not listed on the website. 6. I’ve had all vaccines and boosters but dread getting them because I feel miserable for a couple days. I weigh 110 lbs. As an adult I’m getting the same dose as a 200 + lb. person which seems like more than my body needs. Is there a smaller dose available? Or how about a child’s dosage? 7. I received the new covid booster shot. How much time does it take for the vaccine to take full effect in my body? It used to be 2 weeks with prior shots, not sure with this one. 8. I have yet to get the latest Covid booster vaccination and I plan on getting the RSV and annual flu shot soon. I know you can get all three vaccines at the same time, but I don’t want to do that. I am 70 and in good health. Is there an order of vaccinations that you recommend for these three if I opt for one at a time spread over a couple weeks? Question for Willie Bence: 1. I know we have tsunami sirens along our coast in Jefferson County but would DEM consider other sirens or tones to alert the community of say, a wild fire, that threatened residential areas in the PT area? Or perhaps a tone that when sounded would get people to tune into our community emergency broadcast station KPTZ for more information?
