HomeMy WebLinkAboutM012919LT 1820 Jefferson Street PO Box 1220 Port Townsend, WA 98368 Dennis Cowan, Member Ken Przygocki, Member Robert Gebo, Chairman Steve Richmond, Chief Examiner CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES January 29, 2019 Chairman Bob Gebo attended by phone and called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. in the presence of Commissioner Ken Przygocki, Commissioner Dennis Cowan and Chief Examiner Steve Richmond. Jail Superintendent David Fortino and Citizen Dan Taylor were also in attendance. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chairman Gebo moved to approve the minutes of September 28, 2018 as presented. Commissioner Przygocki seconded the motion. The Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS REVIEW OF CORRESPONDENCE re: Lateral Patrol Eligibility List (Accepted) • Email Correspondence from Sergeant Andy Pernsteiner updating status on Candidates, Interviews conducted, pending offers and status the Eligibility List has 2 Candidates remaining. Discussion ensued on if the Chairman position should switch to one of the other Commissioners. Member Przygoski moved Commissioner Gebo remain as Chairman for 2019. Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion. The Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS UPDATE re: The Board discussed the following Civil Service Eligibility Lists and their current status. Animal Services Officer. The Board reviewed that the current list is exhausted. Chief Examiner Richmond agreed to speak with the Sheriff regarding status and budget and update the Board at the next regular meeting. • Corrections Sergeant. The current list is exhausted. Discussion ensued to send notice to the Internal Candidates. The Testing Materials will be emailed to all current eligible Corrections Deputies. Secretary Shannon and Chief Examiner Richmond will send a request to Public Safety Testing (PST) to write the Examination. The Board agreed on the Examination date to be Saturday, April 27, 2019, Jefferson County Sheriff s Office Conference Room. The Board will continue this discussion at the next meeting. ADDED BUISNESS: • Chief Examiner Richmond gave an update on the Administrative Clerk Examination administered October 13, 2018. A new list was established, interviews conducted, and offer was accepted and 6 candidates remain on the list. • Citizen Taylor briefed the Board on Washington Initiative 1639 - Changes to Gun Ownership and Purchase Requirements Measure (2018). Enhanced Background Checks, Firearms Safety Class as well as a waiting period will be required at a local level thru the Sheriff's Office. The Board discussed possible ways this will impact our Sheriff's Office. NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Gebo moved to adjourn the meeting at 2:45 p.m. Commissioner Ken Przygocki seconded the motion.
