CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
July 2, 2019
Chairman Bob Gebo called the meeting to order at 2:04 p.m. in the presence of Commissioner Dennis
Cowan, Commissioner Ken Przygocki and Chief Examiner Steve Richmond. Jefferson County Sheriff Joe
Nole, Undersheriff Andy Pernsteiner and a member of the public, Dan Taylor were also in attendance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Dennis Cowan moved to approve the minutes of April 30,
2019 as presented. Commissioner Przygocki seconded the motion which carried by a unanimous vote.
OLD BUSINESS
REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF ELIGIBILITY LISTS AND TESTING SCHEDULES:
• Animal Services Officer — Sheriff Nole stated that he is working on rewriting the job
description for Animal Services Officer and would like to add required Law Enforcement
credentials. He has requested approval from the Union and Human Resources. Sheriff Nole
will work with Chief Examiner Richmond to create an examination. He estimates this
position will be filled sometime in 2020.
• Corrections Sergeant — Sheriff Nole updated the Committee on the success of the
Corrections Sergeant Examination Three (3) Candidates had passing scores and were
placed on the eligibility list. The Board was pleased with the outcome and the examination
Public Safety Testing provided. The Sheriff indicated he would like to retain the existing
list until it expires.
• Patrol Sergeant — Sheriff Nole stated that with pending promotions within the Sheriff's
Office, the testing and creation of the upcoming eligibility list is timely. The Board
discussed testing, and a date and time was set for the examination. (August 24, 2019,
Sheriff's Office Conference Room, 1:00 p.m.) The Board concurred that an oral
examination along with the written exam will determine a candidates final score. An
update will be given at the next meeting regarding the test results and scheduling an oral
board.
NEW BUSINESS
EXEMPT POSITIONS: The Sheriff discussed a possible update of some of the exempt positions at the
Sheriff's Office. The Board suggested he work with Human Resources to change job descriptions.
NOTICE OF ADJOURNMENT: Chairman Gebo moved to adjourn the meeting at 3:00 p.m.
Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion. The Motion carried.
NEXT MEETING: September 24, 2019 or a Special Meeting if properly noticed pursuant to RCW
42.30.080.
