CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
January 30, 2018
Commissioner Dennis Cowan called the meeting to order at 2:01 p.m. in the presence of Commissioner
Ken Przygocki. Chairman Bob Gebo attended by phone. Corrections Sergeant David Fortino was also in
attendance.
Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Przygocki moved to approve the minutes of September 26, 2017 as
presented. Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion which carried by unanimous vote.

NEW BUSINESS
Update re: Chief Examiner Vacancy; Secretary Shannon informed the Board that the notice will be
advertised and interviews will be scheduled at the next regular meeting.
Discussion re: Sergeant of Corrections Eligibility List; The Board discussed the examination process to
establish a new list. Commissioner Cowan moved to use Public Safety Testing to write an examination for
the testing as has been done in the past. Commissioner Przygocki seconded the motion which carried by a
unanimous vote. Secretary Shannon was directed to contact Public Safety Testing and provide a timeline
to the Board for an examination.
Discussion re: Animal Control Officer: The Board discussed the current eligibility list and the process of
hiring for this position.

Discussion re: Control Room Operator: The Board reviewed the job description and request from Sheriff
Stanko to accept this position under the Civil Service Commission. Discussion ensued regarding creating
an eligibility list. Corrections Sergeant David Fortino was a guest at the meeting and provided the details
of the position. He also provided examination examples from neighboring counties who have this
position. The Board directed Secretary Shannon to schedule a Public Hearing to accept comments and add
this position to the Civil Service Commission Rules.
Notice of Adiournment: Commissioner Cowan moved to adjourn the meeting at 3:24 p.m. Chairman
Gebo seconded the motion which carried by a unanimous vote.
Next Meeting: February 27, 2018 or a Special Meeting if properly noticed pursuant to RCW 42.30.080.
