CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
May 30, 2017
Commissioner Bob Gebo called the meeting to order at 2:19 p.m. in the presence of Commissioner
Dennis Cowan and Chief Examiner Ken Swanson.
Approval of Minutes: Commissioner Gebo moved to approve the minutes of April 25, 2017 as
presented. Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion. The motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS
Discussion and Possible Action re: Chairman of the Board Assignment: The Board excepted Chairman
Tim Perry's resignation effective April 30, 2017 as he has relocated outside of Jefferson County.
Commissioner Dennis Cowan nominated Commissioner Bob Gebo as Chairman. Commissioner Gebo
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Review re: Patrol Sergeant Examination and Results: The Board reviewed the examination process for
Patrol Sergeant. All agreed it was favorable.
NEW BUSINESS
Interview(s) re: Vacancy on Civil Service Commission: Three letters of intent were received the vacant
position. The Candidates were Ken Przygocki, Ken Swanson and Cecil Marr. Both Ken Swanson and
Cecil Marr withdrew. The Board interviewed Ken Przygocki by phone. Chairman Gebo moved to approve
the nomination of Ken Przygocki. Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Discussion re: Oral Board for Patrol Sergeant Candidates: The Board reviewed the process and set the
date for the Patrol Sergeant Oral Board to take place on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Courthouse.
Secretary Shannon will communicate to the Candidates the details of their Oral Board Exam. The Board
will provide a list of Oral Board members and agreed to proctor the interviews with the assistance of the
Sheriff.

Review Correspondence re: The Board reviewed and approved the following correspondence:
E-mail from Sheriff, David Stanko, May 16, 2017 Subject: Sergeants Testing for
Corrections.
Discussion re: Sergeant of Corrections Examination to Establish an Eligibility List: The Board reviewed a
request from Sheriff Stanko (see email above). The Board directed Secretary Shannon to request
information from Public Safety Testing as to whether they administer testing for Sergeant of Corrections.
Chairman Gebo moved to proceed with the examination process for Sergeant of Corrections to establish a
new eligibility list. Commissioner Cowan seconded the motion. The motion carried.
ADDITIONAL BUISNESS
Discussion re: The Board reviewed a letter from a former civil service employee requesting to be
reinstated to her former position as Administrative clerk. The Civil Service rules require the Sherriff hire
from the current eligibility list. The list has been extended another year or until the list is exhausted. The
Board concurred that the former employee will need to successfully pass the examination process and be
placed on the Administrative eligibility list in order to be considered for employment.
Notice of Adiournment: Commissioner Cowan moved to adjourn the meeting at 3:30 p.m. Chairman
Gebo seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Next Meeting: June 27, 2017 or a Special Meeting if properly noticed pursuant to RCW 42.30.080.
