Commissioners,
Regarding the $1,500 threshold in JCC 15.05.040 currently under consideration –
Fun fact: The $1,500 limit was first created by our legislature in 1989 and has not changed since. See (7) on pgs. 2, 3 of attached.
Inflation (CPI) between 1989 and today has resulted in a cumulative price increase of 155.66%
So, that $1,500 when adjusted for inflation would be $3,835.
Building materials have increased far faster than the CPI, so even $5,000 isn’t a high enough threshold.
That said, I believe there should be no such threshold at all, and that the need for a permit should be based solely on the nature of the work to be done and not how much (or little)
that work costs.
Thank you,
Tom Thiersch
