HomeMy WebLinkAbout101923 RE_ Alert systemHi Nan, The tsunami sirens are an outdoor warning system meant to warn only those that are outside and in the inundation zone that something dangerous is approaching. According to the location you provided, your elevation is approximately 31ft above sea level, and you are considered to be in an inundation zone, but the outdoor warning sirens are not designed to be heard indoors. In an event of a tsunami, emergency alerts sent to your phone as well as ground shaking and other physical indicators will be your warning to evacuate. More information on the tsunami inundation zones for Port Townsend can be found on the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website. Information on emergency alerts can be found here: https://www.co.jefferson.wa.us/1066/Alerts-Warnings Thank you for reaching out with your concern and please let us know if you have any additional questions. Do not open attachments or click on links if you are not expecting them. I have lived in the North Beach area for over 10 years and I have never heard the tsunami alert system sirens. Today, knowing that there would be a test at 10:19, I listened especially carefully. Nothing. A little later while I was on a Zoom call from Pt Hadlock, the folks there heard the siren. I still heard nothing. Living only a few blocks from the water along a probable tsunami pathway, it would definitely be life saving for our county to have a siren located where it can be heard throughout North Beach. Thank you for your consideration. Nan Evans Sent from my iPhone
