We brought together over 200 of Washington’s outdoors lovers from all over the state. We ate, drank, caught up with old friends, and made some new ones. We raised $211,546 to continue our work at the highest level possible. We are recruiting winter volunteers in a variety of roles to provide adaptive lessons at The Summit at Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass. Volunteer positions include Ski, Snowboard, Nordic, and Snowshoe Instructors; Drivers; Vehicle Chaperones; Equipment Managers; Lodge Assistants; and Race Program Crew. Positions are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays January – March. A $310,000 grant from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program paid for the water access project. Construction and inspections are wrapping up, and the area will open to the public on Nov. 20, 2023. Advisors score grant applications and give policy feedback for one of RCO’s grant programs, which range from recreation development to habitat conservation. RCO is currently seeking advisors with habitat conservation or parks and recreation backgrounds on the WWRP Habitat Acquisition, Habitat Restoration, Local Parks, State Lands Development, State Larks, Trails, and Water Access advisory committees and on the Community Athletic Facilities advisory committee. Most grant review work takes place over a few days in the summer or fall and can be completed remotely online. Stipends are available to eligible committee members. The project created approximately 2 acres of new and restored wetlands as part of a larger restoration project to improve habitat and water quality. Work included adding new wetlands and enhancing existing wetlands by removing invasive plants, planting, and creating small ponds. Grasslands were converted to a new wetland, and we enhanced the upland buffer functions by creating upland shrub and upland forest habitats in a mosaic.
