Ribbon cutting event to celebrate the launch of Electric
Vehicle (EV)carsharing in the city of Port Townsend.
Nonprofit consumer cooperative ZEV co-op (Zero Emission Vehicle
Cooperative)along with the Chamber of Jefferson County, the Jefferson
County/City of Port Townsend joint Climate Action Committee (CAC),the
City of Port Townsend and OlyCAP will be having a ribbon cutting event at
the Chamber of Commerce office at 2409 Jefferson St B,Port Townsend,
WA on Wednesday,November 15th,2023 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.
This event is being held to celebrate and bring awareness of the recent
launch of the new ZEV co-op EV carshare program in the City of Port
Townsend.
ZEV co-op is a tech-enabled car rental (aka carsharing)enterprise offering
electric zero emission vehicles with a focus on residents of underserved,
low-income,and rural communities.ZEV co-op offers insurance and
roadside support, with favorable membership terms and affordable rates.
Member-owned and democratically controlled,ZEV co-op aspires to make
zero-emission vehicles easily available to all Washingtonians, regardless of
income or place of residence.
The City,Chamber and OlyCAP partnered with ZEV Coop to successfully
apply for funding from WSDOT for a low income EV carshare program
through the WSDOT ZAP grant. The partnerships came out of the CAC EV
Work group, which was established to help speed the transition to EVs in
Jefferson County as one way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This
specific program was especially desirable because of its ability to make
EVs accessible to a wider range of residents, and the potential for
households and businesses to use the carshare as an extra car,and
reduce the number of cars owned.
There are currently two EV carshare vehicles available in Port Townsend,a
Chevy Bolt EUV at the Chamber, and a Chevy Bolt at OlyCAP 7th Haven.
Each site will be getting an additional EV in the next year.
Attendees should expect a 2 hour long ribbon cutting ceremony that
includes presentations by speakers that represent community leaders,
carshare representatives and advocates.
