ANALYSIS/STRATEGIC GOALS/PRO'S and CON'S: Jefferson County celebrates National Family Caregiver Month in November; to recognize Jefferson County's family members who have sacrificed their jobs, altered careers and lives to give their love, commitment, and compassion to their relative. REVIEWED BY: „//6111-1/ Mark McCauley, County Administrator Date Community Health Environmental Public Health Developmental Disabilities 360-385-9444 360-385-9400 (f) 360-379-4487 360-385-9401 (f) Always working for a safer and healthier community PROCLAMATION National Family Caregiver Month WHEREAS, during National Family Caregivers Month, we recognize the important role of our family caregivers and thank them for the invaluable and instrumental care they provide; and WHEREAS, every day, millions of Americans provide essential care and medical assistance to their loved ones. These acts of love, commitment, and compassion enable their family members to receive the support they need to live a life with dignity; and WHEREAS; at some point in our lives, each of us will likely need to be a family caregiver but the burden falls especially hard on those who cannot afford support; and WHEREAS, while the opportunity to provide care to a loved one can be a blessing and a source of connection, it often requires sacrifice; and WHEREAS, workers,their families, and our economy suffer when workers are forced to choose between their jobs and their caregiving responsibilities or between putting food on the table and caring for a relative; and WHEREAS, too many Americans who need caregiving support struggle with the high costs of caring for a family member in need, or providing long-term care for people with disabilities or older adults; and WHEREAS; their work is a profound service to their families and to our County, our State and our Nation, but they are still too often unseen, undervalued, and unpaid; and WHEREAS, we understand the struggles family caregivers face and the importance of the care they provide. This month, as we continue our fight to expand access to caregiving, we recognize our caregivers who wake up every single day to do this physically and emotionally demanding, yet vitally important work; NOW, THEREFORE,the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners hereby proclaims the month of November, 2023, as National Family Caregiver Month We encourage all Americans to reach out to those who provide care for their family members, friends, and neighbors in need to honor and to thank them.
