With a focus on high quality instruction, knowing each student, and emphasis on overall wellness, our students are thriving. Vibrant schools are a reflection of the vibrant communities they serve. Chimacum School District is fortunate to have strong support from the Jefferson County community and a history of successful community partnerships. You are our Deep Roots and Board Horizons! Thank you for being an important partner for our school district. I am excited to let you know that we are running a Capital Projects Levy in February 2024. The four-year levy would authorize the district to collect $2.35 million per year to support electrical, HVAC, and insulation system updates that promote energy efficiency. These funds would also be used to support student technology needs, and facility modernizations impacting learning environments, and safety and security. You can find out more about the February 13, 2024, levy by visiting our website { https://www.csd49.org/levy-information}. You are vital to our success as a Key Communicator of the good news happening in Chimacum! Please share our stories with your friends and other people in our community. Warmly, S Energy Efficiency Keeps Resources in the Classroom We are proud of our facilities in Chimacum. We often hear from folks who visit for the first time how impressive and inviting our schools are- from our historic auditorium (one of(the largest in Jefferson County) to our Primary School to our Libraries, Chimacum has made the most of capital levy dollars, grants, rebates, and community partnerships. Aging facilities can be a drain on resources, and we are ready for HVAC and Insulation upgrades. Working with architects on a facilities condition evaluation and design framework, we have made a plan to replace 20–25-year-old HVAC units with more modern technologies. In addition, we will be replacing the Junior/Senior High School flat roofs. By stripping the roofs down to the plywood, we will assess and repair any water damage, add insulation beyond the current code, and outfit the new roof with safety anchors and hardware for future solarization. We have mapped out a four-year plan that ensures we make the most out of our levy dollars. This includes taking care of other projects each time we “touch” an area (i.e., siding and windows). We continue to aggressively pursue grants and rebates that will stretch levy dollars beyond the highest priority projects so that we can extend the life of our buildings as efficiently as possible. This includes pursuing grants for playgrounds, energy efficiency rebates, and urgent repairs. We endeavor to be outstanding stewards of our budget, and make great things happen for our students! Student Technology Access to state-of-the art technology in our schools is a high priority. Our instructional technology focus supports our Core Purpose by emphasizing four big ideas: ● Cultivate Learners who are confident, competent, and prepared to learn, grow, and contribute to their communities ● Support teachers, students, and community members to have the skills and passion to support student learning ● Promote Digital Citizenship (safe, kind, and civil technology use) and Media Literacy (accessing, understanding, and creating media messages) ● Develop seamless integration of context-appropriate technologies and resources in service of learning To support our students and staff we provide developmentally appropriate technology for our students and classrooms at all levels. Our secondary students have 24/7/365 access to their own laptop, and most elementary students have one-to-one access in their classrooms. This allows them to work on projects, access information, develop literacy and numeracy skills, and much more. Although technology is fundamental to a basic education, the state does not adequately fund technology for districts, so we rely on local capital levy money to fund 1:1 computing, modern technology for teachers, software, and secure servers. We also seek grants and community partnerships that fund programs like robotics. The fast-changing world is fueled by technology and innovation. We want to ensure our students have broad horizons because of their access to technology!
