Angi and I had a great conversation with Heather Painter from Kilmer’s staff.
She has an ask from all of us to help them, help us!
First - Rep Kilmer wants a joint call with Senators Murray and Cantwell. Rep Kilmer asks that that we each contact the Senator’s offices to say we would appreciate it if Murray and Cantwell
would join a call with Rep Kilmer and US Dept of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in the next two weeks. He wants all three to advocate together for our application. It is unique in
that we had 49 letters of support, we had an innovative strategy and that we had strong data from ESD and partnered with DSHS.
The second ask is that they put $41M in the budget for 2024. (The funds were not included in the Senate budget proposed by Sen Murray because apparently the ranking member is from a
wealthy district and has no interest in Recompete). This is the most demand the’ve ever experienced from any program.
Kilmer has had a call with Alehandra Y. Castillo, Asst Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, advocating for our application.
Also was just told by a friend in DC that Rep Kilmer is not going to run again! That’s a loss for everyone! This was confirmed by his email.
Let’s quickly work on a draft email or should we each do our own? They said they’ll get a lot further if they receive requests from constituents.

Hi everyone,
When we met last Friday everyone seemed to agree that Friday afternoons are, in general, a good time for regular meetings. I’d like to suggest that we start with Friday, November 17th,
and that we set the meetings for every other week. We can cancel if we don’t need to meet, and it’s easier to cancel than it is to scramble to find a time to meet if we need one.
How does 2:00 pm work as a regular meeting time?

It says “Later this year” they will be launching Phase 2. They are still expecting to approve approximately 20 plans to move on to the next phase and awarding approximately 30 Strategy
Development Grants.
