Good Morning Greg, Sandy and I are not in favor of the citizens of Jefferson County supporting the proposed pool in Port Townsend with our tax dollars. At a time when our citizens are already struggling with high property taxes and with the further burdened of the new 1% increase in our property tax we do not need to be burdened with a tax for the Port Townsend pool. As I understand it, a Public Facilities District would be formed to tax Jefferson County land owners for the cost of the Port Townsend pool. This would mean the tax payers of Jefferson County would also be burdened with the cost of another agency. Jefferson County citizens are already impacted with low wages, high inflation and high taxes and additional taxes would not be in the best interest of the citizens of Jefferson County. The cost of a PFD may just be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. The $110,000 cost of putting this issue on a ballot could surely be used by Jefferson County to benefit Jefferson County citizens in other ways. You had great support in your election because the citizens in your district believed that you would do what was in their best interest. We strongly urge you to vote NO to putting the PFD on a ballot.
