To: Jefferson County Commissioners, I am writing to add my voice to those who wish to see a new pool for Jefferson County in the (hopefully very near) future. For eight years, since my retirement from teaching, the water aerobics class has been my safety net not just for getting my heart pumping, blood moving, and muscles stretching, but also for the laughter it generates, the camaraderie it fosters, and the good will it nurtures. When I talk to my husband and family about my "pool group" they understand immediately that I'm referring to the 20-plus women, and a few men, friendships that I have made since starting the pool routine three mornings a week. Articles have been written in publications like the New York Times extolling the importance of this type of physical/mental/social activity; that it's healthy and that it connects people socially—people who might otherwise be alone. I don't need a physician's testimony to assure me that water aerobics is healthy, fun and a life-affirming activity. I know this to be true. I wish the naysayers would join us at the pool and splash around a bit. Maybe it would turn their negative views into positive ones, and it might also add a bit of fun to their contrary nature. YES to the new pool! Regards, Marga Kapka Sent from Outlook <http://aka.ms/weboutlook>
